Sugar Patisserie is a local family business, owned and operated by Giada Vacca and her husband Mic Fronteddu.
Leaving Italy after completing her graduate studies, Giada moved to Vancouver to work as a biologist at the University of British Columbia. To feel closer to home she would often bake her mom’s beloved recipes, ‘the apricot crostata’ and ‘amaretti cookies’ and share them with friends at work. Encouraged by her colleagues, in 2013, while balancing raising two sons and working full-time, Giada started a home baking business ‘Treats and Blossoms’. As Giada baked, so did her desire to keep venturing in the world of baking. Enthusiastic to share this passion, Giada began offering cookie and cake decorating classes from her home. In October 2018, pursuing her long-time dream of owning a cakeshop, Giada opened the doors at Sugar Patisserie.
